I finally have my own! I’ve been thinking about one for awhile – I actually have three started under other names, but they didn’t quite seem right. And then I finally decided on the name I HAD to have (one of those 1:00 in the morning, bolt out of bed, “that’s it!” moments) only to discover that other people obviously had the same idea and the name (and all variations of that name) were already taken on several blog hosting sites. So…I put it on the back burner again until today. And today, I was doing laundry, and yes, you guessed it, hanging it outside on the line to dry. And I thought, well, that’s me, isn’t it? Finding joy in hanging up the wash because it saves electricity, makes the clothes smell good without chemicals, and I just like the look of all that clean stuff hanging there and blowing in the breeze. It makes me think of farmhouses and hard-working women who grew their own food (hmm – like I do), made bread and meals from scratch (hey, I do that too!), saved scraps to make quilts (I love quilts!), accepted frugalness as a way of life (ok, you’re probably getting the picture)… And so – “Laundry on the Line” was born. And what will this blog be about? Well, it’ll be about me, one thirty-something girl living in a complicated technology-happy world, trying to keep things simple and hold onto the old knowledge and wisdom that was probably second-nature to many of our great-great-grandmothers (like how to preserve food for the winter, knowing which herb is good for a cold or a stomachache, and how to use what you have to make what you need) while living a 21st century life (I love the Internet and my sewing machine and the electric light that lets me read and sew at all hours!) So – welcome to my world!
After reading everyone else’s blog…

Hi I like the way you think – I think about all these things too and am trying to green up my life one baby step at a time after many previous attemps that totally overwhelmed me.
I think it’s important to go slow otherwise your brain can overload once you get reading about stuff!
I’ve been thinking about the produce bags myself, I wish I could make friends with my sewing machine but until that day I am re-using the icky plastic ones over and over…
Keep up the good work laundry gal
Kris
Thanks, Kris! I agree, it is definitely a process. I have read a lot of books that make me feel totally overwhelmed with the task at hand, baby steps is the best way. If you ever do become friends with your sewing machine, these bags are quick and easy to make and would make a great first project.
