Sorry for being AWOL this past week – I’ve had a terrible cold and even spent two days doing nothing but sleep and rest (which, if you know me, is a very rare occurence.) I seem to have a backlog of photos and posts to write so hopefully the worst is over and I’ll be back to normal in no time!

Recipe Source: Fry’s Breakfast Cocoa Leaflet
Recipe Date: unknown, probably between 1943 – 1946 due to possible reference to sugar-rationing.
My hubby likes his chocolate syrup. He likes it in his milk and on just about every dessert I have ever made, as well as on ice cream, of course. So when I saw this in Nana’s recipe stack, I brought it home with plans to make him some (I am allergic to chocolate so this one was completely for him.)
Here is the original recipe leaflet:
It really was as easy to make as it sounded. It also makes buying the stuff from the store seem really silly (unless you like preservatives in your food, that is.) Hubby says it makes the best chocolate milk he has ever tasted! Once it was ready I poured it into a re-used glass bottle and popped it in the fridge where it has been keeping well ever since.
I must admit that it would have been nice to get the label off this jar, but it wouldn’t budge. I did really like the nice tall shape for a syrup container and I don’t think we’ll mistake it for olives!
Here is a simple and easy dessert: yogurt, frozen berries, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. (I eat mine without the sauce but hubby’s sweet tooth is a lot sweeter than mine!)
Score two for Nana’s recipes!

I’m so making that! We’ve been making more and more of our own stuff, are in the process of switching over to cast-iron and are just trying to be more healthy in general. I too love the ‘old stand-by’s’ such as the ones our Gramma’s made.
Dying to try this one!
