Enjoying Summer’s Beauty

It is officially fall.  The nights are getting cooler.  Over the past week we have had to cover our veggie garden to protect from frost.  Twice.  I have been busy harvesting produce and filling the freezer and a number of glass jars with summer’s bounty.  It is a busy time of year.

But I took time out, on a beautiful sunny day last week, to take care of the flower garden.  I must admit that the herbs and veggies get most of my attention and care, and most of the time the flowers are left to fend for themselves.

But as I took time to remove weeds and spent flowers, I also spent some time enjoying the last hoorah of summer in the beauty of the flowers still in bloom before me.

I have no idea what type of flowers these are, but I love their colourful blossoms, and the pattern of deeper colours close to the center.  They may not provide food for my table, but they do provide a feast for the eyes. 

A memory of life and warmth that I will still be feasting on during the coldest days of the coming winter.
